MEMBERSHIP IN THE AAUW NORTH HILLS PITTSBURGH BRANCH
The AAUW Mission Statement: To advance gender equality for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.
AAUW, founded in 1881, is open to all graduates who hold an associate or equivalent (R.N.), bachelor’s, or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization based on gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or class. The membership year extends from July 1st through June 30th and new members may join at any time.
The AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh Branch meets a minimum of seven times a year, once a month, during September to May – mostly on Wednesday evenings and sometimes on Saturday mornings. A branch meeting typically has a speaker and a business meeting. However, some months the meeting is a program format. These meeting could be in person or virtual. Our programs relate to women’s issues. Branch meetings conduct branch business.
The Branch also sponsors Special Interest Groups for our members:
An AM Book group on Tuesday mornings and a PM Book group on Monday evenings. Each group meets once per month.
A morning Bridge group meets every Thursday.
“In Place of Dinner Social” (IPODS) meets once per month. Spouses are encouraged to attend.
The Lunch Bunch goes to lunch at a different restaurant in the North Hills area or around the Pittsburgh area once per month.
“The Great Decisions” Program is presented through the Foreign Policy Association at La Roche University. These group discussions are scheduled for 8 consecutive Saturday mornings during the months of February and March.
New this year: “Home & Garden”. Join other North Hills Pittsburgh members as we explore museums, gardens, and other historical sites around the Metropolitan area. Our plan is to visit one of these places per month.
