The Power of Women in STEM: AAUW NGOCSW Parallel
Event Innovation & Advancement
AAUW’s virtual parallel event, moderated by Gloria L. Blackwell, featured a panel of four outstanding
AAUW fellowships & grants alumnae — Catherine Adelman, Dr. Christine Marizzi, Dr. Rachel Marra,
and Yamilée Toussaint. Panelists discussed the critical need for strategies that inspire and educate
girls to choose STEM careers and how to remove barriers to increase the participation and
empowerment of women across these underrepresented fields.
Held in the frame of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) March 26, 2025,
this parallel event was part of a series of sessions organized by NGOs and other groups alongside
the official UN meetings, providing space to highlight key gender equality issues.
